The Reproduction of Bamboo

Different kinds of bamboos have different methods to reproduce.General speaking,bamboo’s root,branches and the buds in the branches are all have reproduction ability.So we can plant bamboo by shifting,root buried,pole buried or inarching and so on.However, Irregular stocking bamboo’s(SanshengZhu) shanks and branches do not have the ability to reproduce, but buds on its root can grow to become rhizome and bamboo; therefore,to such kind bamboos we can only choose the way of shifting or replanting  their roots.

The reproduction of Clumping bamboos(CongshengZhu) or HunshengZhu:

1. Shifting(Root sub-planting):First,we should choose the 1 to 2 years’ old blooming growed bamboo,then remove the earth  about 25mm--30mm  around it,cut its trunk and then pull its root out with earth.Finally we just need to plant the root in the ready hole.And we can dig 3 to 5 small bamboos once.  

Bamboo Folkways in Yunnan

Bamboo folkways are a great part of culture in yunnan。They are composed of bamboo marriage custom,funeral custom,singing and dancing custom,bamboo planting and protecting custom ect.

1.Bamboo Marriage Custom:

Bamboo in marriage is a symbol of purity，favonian and more sons,  more blessings。Just take Achang clansman for example when they got marriaged，they hold ceremony of “砍竹门”（cutting bamboo wood）

2. Bamboo Funeral Custom:

Bamboo has the symbol of turning undead and coming back to soul.When Dai clansman are end，their relatives choose some bamboo wood to be cut and weave into a small bamboo mansion for the dead,so the dead’s soul could go to the heaven with a house.When Hani clansman are dead,beima(priest) hold the funeral,beima would put a bamboo straight up before the dead’s.And a white clouth should be tied on the bamboo.When De’ang clansman are dead,people should play “bamboo dance” on the dead’s funeral.it is a manner to see them off. The folks who are admire bamboo think that bamboo is the origion of life,and the end-result of life. When Yi clansman are dead, they made memorial tablets with bamboo for ancients.this memorial tablets are called “madu”.In their opinion,”madu”is the end-result or substitution of soul. When Nu clansman are dead,people would blow clarion of bamboo，reporting death to all other villagers.

3.Bamboo Planting:

When it is april or may,Yi people wear caps made by bamboo.It is such a cuntom which you can see everywhere.other peoples plant bamboo trees on the hills ,on the mountains,on the slopes and anywhere else. It is a tradition.Almost every family has a yard of bamboo.

Bamboo is the distribution of a wide range of evergreen plants in the South China region. It has slender branches,tall and straight ,pole, hollow. So people use the poem of "before unearthed, having a pole; when reach the top, yet needing an open mind " to describe the character of humility, integrity and high moral conduct. It posesses the reputation of "four gentlemen" together with orchid, plum, chrysanthemum,also called "Friends of cold."with thepinaster, plum. Because of its tenacity and abstention ,its rakish and elegant image, literaties from the Seven Sages of the Bamboo in the period of Wei and Jin Dynasties to “Yangzhoubaguai” in the late Qing Dynasty, are all based on bamboo meaning to compre gentlemen integrity. Ancient writers loved bamboo, planted bamboo,praised bamboo ,painted bamboo,and even visualized bamboo, figurative bamboo’ character. Su Dongpo had ever said such famous line: "It can eat without meat, but can not live without bamboo."

   Zheng Banqiao, well-known painter in the Qing Dynasty, wrote the poem in the painting of "Bamboo Stone," that " Gnaw into the green mountain,don’t slacken; root in the break-in rock.Being chastened and hit still are also strenth and tenacity, random exposed to anywhere winds come from." He described the spirit that was hard and strong of bamboo incisively and vividly. Bamboo grew up in the barren hills in silence, no matter where it was,she would take a firm and indomitable perseverance in the face of adversity and tenaciously survived. Despite the years of loneliness and boundlessly keep desolate, suffering and withstanding the torment and beaten of snow and rain throughout the year, she always was “Gnaw into the green mountain ", dedicated, regretless. For thousands of years, bamboo is the image of chaste and Rhadamanthine quality as well as noble character and sterling integrity,which is the role models, worshipfully.

  Bamboo is marked by the upright and outspoken integrity and image not only in the eyes of the literati scholars, but also is deeply related to Buddhism. Bamboo, " not folded afer the wind, not muddy afer the rain,", which has set an example for earthling. Sakyamuni Buddha had ever sermon in bamboo forest of castle of Wang Shecheng Kalanda;Buddha cultivated herself according to a religious doctrine in "bamboo forest ”... ... Bamboo forest has become a Buddhist praise of the quiet place,which has illustrated that bamboo, as a kind of "bodies", had been deeply into the hearts of the Buddha. Bamboo’s straight outside and hollow inside, is the Buddhist concept of"non- ego and pay homage to Zen, non-sex and cultivate one’s religion," and is a transcendent realm of standing aloof from worldly affairs.

A team of European furniture designer use bamboo as materials to inspire a series of the home furniture and realized it already. Most of the European furniture are made with wood or metal. The bamboo materials make as a niche, or sometimes play as a home decor only.
It's the first time officially use bamboo to design a series of the bamboo furniture. And the color keep as European taste. In the coming time, it can branches out more series if that series get welcome from the market.
