The Bamboo Sources in China

China is the world’s leading producer of bamboo, whether the type, size stock of bamboo or the production of bamboo shoots all rank first in the world.

As our Chinates, soil and topography change and biological difference of bamboo’s characteristics, the distribution of Chinese bamboo is obviously zonal and regional. They can be roughly divided into fire main major areas of bamboos.

(1)The Area of Scattered Growing Bamboo in the North

This area is at the latitude between 30°N and 40°N, the annual average temperature is 12°C-17°C and the average precipitation is 600-1200mm.In this area, there are about 10 clusses snd 29 kinds of bamboos.They are mostly in southeast of Gansu,north of Sichuan, southwest of Shanxi, Henan,Hubei and Anhui.

(2)The Area of Mixed Bamboo in South of Yangze River

They are in the south-east of Sichuan,Hunan,Jiangxi,Zhejiang,South of Anhui and northwest of Fujian. This area is about at latitude 25°N-30°N and the annual average temperature is 15°C-20°C and the average precpitation is 1200-2000mm.This area is featured with mixed growth of scattered and lash bamboo.It is the largest area of bamboo in China. And the source of bamboo is very rich there. There is the largest man-made bamboo forest in this area.It is also the area which produces the most bamboo, especially grass bamboo.

(3)The Area of High-land bsmboo in Southwest

It locates at the latitude of 10°N-20°N. The average temperasture is 8°C-12°C,and the annual precipitation is 800-1000mm. It mainly includes southeast of Tibetan,northwest and northeast of Yunnan and west and south of Sichuan. It mainly produces pandas’ mainfood—arrow and mount bamboos.

(4)The Area of Lash Growing Bamboo in South

It locates at the latitude of 10°N-20°N. The annual average temperature is 20°C-22°C and the average precipitation is 1200-2000mm. According to the component of bamboo and the condition for growth,it can be divided into 2 regions:one is south China region,and the other is southwest region in Assia.

(5) The Area of Climbing Bamboo in Hainan and Yunnan

It includes the middle part of Hainan island. The broder districts of east and west of Yunnan,and southeast of Tibetan—Chayu and Motou.Bamboo in this area is featured with the growth of climbing bamboo and lash bamboo.
