The Meaning of Developing Bamboo for Pulp and Paper Making

China has become the paper making, comsumption and import dominat country. Both the production and comsumption of paper and chipboard rank the top two in the world only after the USA. With the rapid increasing need of paper products, the constructional controdictions of the paper making industries are menifesting day by day. The wood fiber can never meet the needs ,resulting in a rapid increase of the import. In our country, the wood resource is desperately in short. In the whole country, the forest coverage is only 16.55%, and it is less than half ot  the world’s average coverage rate As the West Development is underway, the measure based on returning land for farming to forestry is imperative.This reality has decided that the wood fiber in our country will not meet the need of paper making for a long time.

Developing bamboo pulp is not only a effective way to solve the problem of controdiction between the demand and the supply of paper in China, but also a practical means to adjust the paper making material stuctures, thus it can compromise the lack of the medium upscale  pulp. Bamboo pulp is between the softwood pulp and the hardwood pulp, and it is apparently superior to burweed pulp. Bamboo pulp can replace hardwood pulp ,reduce the use of softwood pulp,and can be made into different kinds of pulp. The techniques of  bamboo pulp manufacturing and pollution abatement have become mature and reliable.Moreover, most of the equipment is made in China, the cost of the bamboo pulp is 30% lower than the cost of pinewood pulp and gum wood pulp. The quality of  bamboo pulp is almost the same as wood pulp and of greater market competiveness.

Developing bamboo pulp industries is good for our contry’s undertaking environmental protection. China is the most abundant country in bamboo resource in the world. The category of bamboo , the coverage of bamboo ,the accumulation and annual production all rank the top in the world.

Further more, bamboo is easy to cultivate, its production period is short ,once it is planted it can be used permanently, and continually cutting will not destroy the environment. Developing bamboo pulp industry will make full use of the rich resource from the Middle and West areas making an industrial support for the West Development .
