Why Can’t bamboo stem grow bold ?

Bamboo is a kind of evergreen plant whose stem is usually columniform. The stem is empty inside and grows in sections with a knot between each one.The bamboo we see , grows taller and taller year by year, but its stem  doesn’t  grow bigger  by day as the tree does. Why?

It is for the reason that bamboo is monocotyledon and  there isn’t cambium in the stem of monocotyledon . However, common trees are dicotyledon. There is a very thin cambium between their phloem and xylem each. The cambium is essential for plant to grow bigger. The cambium undergoes cell division each year and then produces new phloems and xylems. By this way, the stem becomes bigger year by year. Plants like bamboo category do not have any cambium , so once their stems emerge out of the ground they will have been shaped. Even though they grow many more years ,they won’t grow bigger .

Why does bamboo only grow longger nor bigger after they to a certain length ,as we see? The reason is that bamboo does not have the cambium. Bamboo is monocotyledon while the common trees are dicotyledon. The stem of monocotyledon is quite different from that of the dicotyledon, and the main difference is : there is no cambium in the stem of the monocotyledon.

If you slice the stem of the dicotyledon and put it through the microscope,you will find many vascular bandles , and the outer layer is thephloem and the inner layer is xylem and between them is the cambium. Plants grow bigger all depend on them. The cambium is the most active, it takes on cell fission very year and produces new thtphloem and xylem;thus the stem grow bigger and bigger year by year.

If you slice the stem of the monocotyledon transersely and then put it under the mircoscope, you will also see many vascular bandles , and also the outer layer is thephloem and the inner layer is xylem.But there is no cambium between the two them. So the stem of the monocotyledon can grow bigger only after the dendrobe spring up and it won’t grow bigger to some degree.
